Not a bad idea so we can get the price down of our health care premiums...
Right, all any government has to do is convince the populace that a thing is good for them in order to make new laws, rules and regulations.
And by their very nature laws, rules and regulations are restrictions on behavior.
Its a game of rule by the political elite.
I wish they would just leave us the hell alone.
@virago1776 Yeah...the government has no right to tell them what to do with their lifestyles; however, they shouldn't expect the government to take care of them when they are sick because they choose to live the way they did...
We could say the same about people who engage in dangerous sports, or who ride motorcycles among other things.
Those are also matters of choice.
However I'm coming up on 64 years old, have been smoking since I was 20 and am very, very seldom, (In fact almost never) sick.
When I was a kid my cousins and I would run about in the spray behind the mosquito truck and we are mostly still here with none dying of cancer or the multitude of other health problems we are threatened with becaus More..e of our lifestyles.
We also went into the orange groves near our houses in Florida just after spraying, peeled the oranges without washing them and ate them and again, we are still here.
I also retired as a professional firefighter and often took in more toxic gases in a good working fire than I could take in all year by smoking.
Again, still here.
Funny thing is that while life expectancy continues to rise in the U.S. with people living longer healthier lives we are told that just about everything is going to kill us.
I know some of that life expectancy has to do with health care but I just don't think things are as bad as the politicians and political activists say.
We are more likely to die of worry than from most of the things so many claim are going to kill us.
Btw, my maternal grandfather died at 98 and the women in the family said the cigarettes and booze finally got him.
But I really don't think that's what did it. Less..
@virago1776 My grandfather died at 94, he will drink a shoot or two every day with his buddy who was 92 when he passed. I guess its genetics....However; everyone has the right to choose a lifestyle that most pleases them, they don't have the right to expect others to foot the bill when they go to the hospital. This is a touchy issue and we could spend the rest of eternity debating about it...
A lot of it is genetics but one thing I've noticed, and I've been deliberately paying attention; I just don't see all those obese children at my grand daughter's school or the malls or anywhere else.
No more in fact than I've ever seen before.
At any rate you are correct, people can debate this forever.
what’s the difference between this and an insurance company asking if you have any pre-existing conditions and what your weight is to give you a higher or lower quote on healthcare?
Primarily because while being grotesquely overweight can cause health problems, being somewhat overweight, or even somewhat obese doesn't necessarily do so.
There are also people who need more salt in their diets than others and a cutback in salt intake can be harmful yet governments and activists constantly call for a decrease in salt for everybody.
New York City mayor Bloomberg called for a law requiring chefs in resturants More.. to be forbidden to put any salt in their dishes.
And that's where this sort of thing leads.
More control over the citizenry by limiting our choices for our own good.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ~ C. S. Lewis Less..
Good idea. Who wants a nation of fatasses?
Being fat should be illegal EVERYWHERE. Fat people are immoral, and are making an immoral choice for being fat. We should ridicule them, beat them with sticks, and fine the shit out of them. We should build fat-camps and have them rounded up and sent there. And if they refuse to lose weight, we toss them into ovens and let their fat fuel the burn. Fat bastards.
@Patchesdf im goin to open a mcdonalds next to this camp
but lets make soap also
But what about sumo wrestlers??
If and when the US gov't is in control of our health care, you bet this will come true in the states.
LOL thats hilarious! Fats VS Skinnys. I work with a fat guy and he's lazy as shit!! Pisses everywhere too because he cant see what hes doing in there... I know some people cant help it.
To all those "liberal obamacare" comments: The title is misleading in the first place. Illegal means you can be forced to do what they tell you by means of a law, but as they said in the report, they cannot force the people to follow more healthy food programs, but they encourage and avice them to do so. It's still their own choice. If they wanna be fat, they just go right ahead.
crazy no .....very very very smart society yes, america needs to implement this here, it would drop the the death rate and raise the quality of life of the people, if you get to fat...off the rehab with ya to lose weight and better your life and the ones around you!!
an eye on health for people that sit most of the day as occupational hazards... :::
well there goes my travel plans...
This same sort of thing happened on Epsilon9 in the Vega system two hundred thousand years ago.
Governments in the southern hemisphere of that planet decided to force their citizens to lose weight without considering the effects of the lack of a corresponding loss of weight in the population of those in the northern hemisphere.
Needless to say that created an imbalance in overall weight in both hemispheres and the planet began to warble to an increasing degree eventually reaching a point at whic More..h people in both hemispheres were flung off into space.
Those in the southern hemisphere, realizing their mistake, then ordered their citizens to start eating nothing but supersized fast food meals in order to correct the problem, while due to a lack of communications, those in the northern hemisphere ordered all their citizens to diet.
Of course that just made things worse and the planet began to warble even more until it was finally thrown out of orbit and wandered about for centuries until it ended up in the far outer reaches of our solar system where it remains as the cold, dead planet Pluto.
The United Federation of Planets is well aware of all this but refuses to act on the information and inform the public due to capitalistc greed.
Remember, those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.

Welcome to the world of government health care. The government in Japan can't afford to cover health care costs at the current and projected levels anymore, and so they are increasingly trying to control people's lives. Getting people to slim down and change to healthier diets is a good thing, but since the government runs the health care system and charges companies and individuals premiums, the government has a pretty big stick with which to beat people.
@buzzardist its your american posion food thats killing us, fucking mcdonald posion, kfc and toco bell crap.....before your shit came along we where great, now we eat your fake food
Japan still has the longest life expectancy in the world. The food isn't killing you...yet. Let enough young people eat that crap, and let a generation or two grow up on those fatty diets, and you will start seeing real problems. An 85cm waist is overweight? You don't know what real fat looks like yet.
One good thing, at least, about the fast food places in Japan is that what counts as a "large" in Japan is a "small" in America. Japan has no "super si More..ze." At least your portions are small enough that you can't get fat as quickly.
But Japanese people, like Americans, have a choice. Stop eating the fast food crap. Stop eating KFC for every Christmas meal. Stop going to McDonalds. Stop going to Japanese fast food places like Mos Burger, too. Nobody is forcing anyone to eat it. Less..
the McRib is BACK!!
so sumo is out?
this is untrue bullshit
No wonder the "Big and Tall" store went out of business in Japan.. Just sayin...
@Diverdanm for starters they aint that tall....just sayin
they'll all get thin with all the radiation
Given the fact that cops are among the fattest people in America, I expect that would be a tough law to enforce in the US.
@Gold Caribiner How many posts are needed to vote?
@Gold Caribiner I'm going to test the system and find out.
It's more than three, apparently.
@Gold Caribiner This might take a while
@Gold Caribiner Maybe I need to reboot.
If you smoke you get penalized by higher health premium, isn't it? So fat people should pay higher health premium. The Japanese are ahead of the world. Which also explained why US is bankrupt.
@IIVXTII The Japanese has the world 2nd largest reserve... USA has zilch.
