Bloomberg’s Anti-Gun Agenda

Calgunlaws has obtained the Mayors Against Illegal Guns “Blueprint For Federal Action on Illegal Guns” through a FOIA request to the White House.

Bloomberg’s group had previously refused to disclose the report.

MAIG-Blueprint-FOIA

This is particularly insidious because of the twisted language used…

From the pdf:

For many years, leaders of the gun lobby have urged law enforcement professionals to “enforce the laws on the books.”

This is true, but when we say “enforce the laws” we mean arrest and jail criminals who use guns in the commission of crimes not abuse the system by creating new anti-gun laws by using bureaucratic rule making as an end run around Congress because they won’t pass the anti-gun laws you want.

The coalition has identified 40 opportunities in six areas where the Administration could enhance enforcement of existing laws without Congressional action.

This is not about enforcing existing laws. This is about creating new ones, and banning guns.

No wonder Bloomberg didn’t want it made public.

"From CalGunLaws.com:

Calgunlaws has obtained the Mayors Against Illegal Guns “Blueprint For Federal Action on Illegal Guns” through a FOIA request to the White House.

Bloomberg’s group had previously refused to disclose the report.

The contents of the report were reviewed by our good friends the "Authorized Journalists" back on Oct. 3:

The "Blueprint for Federal Action on Illegal Guns," a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post... "would dramatically improve law enforcement's ability to keep guns out of the hands of criminals -- and, in doing so, save innocent lives."

See, if they claim it, it must be so. Right? What, you expect evidence? And a reconciliation against "shall not be infringed"?

Note how media allies got their copy to exploit, but gun rights advocates were forced to file a Freedom of Information Act request. Bloomberg & Co. are proposing requirements to bind all gun owners--many through reclassifications, executive order enforcement, ATF policies, etc.--in other words, stuff we can't hold our elected representatives accountable for. The report specifically--damn near gleefully-- points this out:

The coalition has identified 40 opportunities in six areas where the Administration could enhance enforcement of existing laws without Congressional action.

That is, without accountability to We the People... The antis will not stop. And they'll use whatever means at hand to attack us, including keeping our representatives out of the loop.

And they didn't want to show their hand and let us know the specifics. What does that tell you about the character of these...characters?

CalGuns requires registration to read more. I also note the SnarkyBytes blog is hosting a pdf file of the Bloomberg "blueprint," and no doubt it will be appearing on other sites.

My first impressions:

Right at the start, I can't help but notice they're using the "enforce existing gun laws" mantra against us. You have to wonder why anyone thinks making concessions to the enemy is a good idea--it's not like they won't turn around and accuse us of being extremists who never compromise. Besides, if the Second Amendment means anything, the mantra ought to be "repeal existing gun laws."

The other thing that's clear---there was insider ATF help with this--whether through retirees or with existing administrators is unclear. But because they will be beneficiaries of more power if this blueprint is followed, we deserve to know, and their involvement--including if on-the-clock personnel contributed to this--ought to be public knowledge.

Don't look for the "mainstream government watchdog press" to help.

This is a dangerous and insidious new way of attacking our right to keep and bear arms. It's incumbent on each of us to first read and understand the document, discuss it among ourselves, and come up with a way to defy and resist this. Hopefully, we'll see some ideas for a coordinated response coming from NRA, GOA, SAF, et al., within the next few days."
