Part of channel(s): Syria (current event)

We cant really be surprised now can we?

A senior British journalist claims that Syrian
rebels tried to lead him and his colleagues into a trap so they would be killed
by government forces, to discredit the regime of President Bashar
al-Assad.

Channel 4 News chief correspondent Alex
Thomson said a group from the Free Syrian Army led his team into the line of
fire because ‘dead journos are bad for Damascus’.

He said his vehicle was shot at before the
team managed to ‘floor it back to the road we’d been led in on’.

He wrote: ‘Suddenly four men in a black car
beckon us to follow. We move out behind. We are led another route. Led in fact,
straight into a free-fire zone. Told by the Free Syrian Army to follow a road
that was blocked off in the middle of no-man’s land.

'At that point there was the crack of a bullet
and one of the slower three-point tu

  • Assad is a better alley than Al Queda or the Lybian militias now causing terror in Lybia. He is also a good thorn in the side of the terrorist state it neighbours, Israel, which is good enough for me. Israel's enemy is my friend unless its the extremist scum aforementioned. Israel has been murdering civilians ten fold more than Assad and not a fucking whimper about it. The hypocrisy from the major governments is astounding.

  • Honestly, and I am not joking. So long as they're killing themselves, I don't care. If the occasional journalist, who CHOSE to be there in the middle of that shit, gets killed, boo fucking hoo.

  • Wait so they'd already been shot at before the black car turned up. I assume their driver was FSA already, why the need for the mysterious black car when they were already in danger, just drive up to a checkpoint and waved your arms around a lot, or hey, just shoot the fuckers yourself, both sides are generally using the same weapons.

The issue to me seems to be that assad's forces will unload on a nondescript vehicle carrying journalists (who are never shy about declaring themselves as such in More..

Good to see a Brit using logic. I'm afraid I wouldn't be surprised if the above account was pretty accurate. It is however, understandable. Thousands of civilians have died and the toll rises daily - the death of a U.N monitor or of a Western journalist could in an arse-about-tit way go towards stopping that.

Yeah it seems a life deemed valuable by the west has to be lost before any pragmatic action is taken.
It is painful to see Kofi Annan talk of slaughter, sectarian violence and civil war like it is a future prospect when the country has been in such a situation for more than 6 months.
The muddier the waters get, the harder they will be to get clear again.
