(AGI) - Islamabad, 5 March - The "father" of Pakistan's atomic programme has been hospitalized in very serious condition, celebrated as a hero in his homeland before falling into disgrace after accusations of spying for Iran, North Korea and Libya. Abdul Qadeer Khan, since 2004 under house arrest, had always enjoyed good health after the operation for prostate cancer he underwent in 2006. According to a statement by the Pakistani army, he complained of weakness and the tests showed that he had low blood pressure and a fever most likely due to an infection. Khan, 71, fell into disgrace in February 2004 after having confessed to giving away military secrets, but was immediately pardoned by Pervez Musharraf and avoided being subjected to capital punishment.
