Moses Lake man arrested for waving gun, assaulting officer sentenced to a year in prison

One night last June, Moses Lake Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a man walking down West Broadway waving a gun. Officers located 32-year old Brent McKinney, who was in fact waving a handgun around, and making suicidal threats. McKinney would not follow commands, and kept walking away from officers down the sidewalk brandishing the firearm. Officers followed, negotiating with McKinney while setting up containment to shield the public from danger. Officers were equipped with less lethal weapons, as well as standard firearms. Fortunately, neither was needed, as McKinney chose to put his loaded pistol down, and was taken into custody. The pistol McKinney was carrying was reported stolen, McKinney also assaulted an officer. He was booked on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and assault on a police officer.
