Shawn Johnson Preparing for 2012 London Olympics

Shawn Johnson announced on April 4 that she had decided to continue with her gymnastics career and was going to attempt to make the USA women's Olympic gymnastics team competing in London in 2012.

Johnson won two silver medals and a gold medal on the balance beam in the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Johnson unexpectedly announced her plans in front of a motivational speech for elementary school students in her hometown of Des Moines, Iowa.

In 2009 the Olympic gold medalist was also the winner of Dancing With the Stars. She had never said that she was not going to try and comeback, but many observers had dismissed her to repeat on another Olympic team.

Johnson injured her knee earlier in January with an ACL separation, which will make the road to London that much more difficult.

While gymnasts are considered old at age 20, which Johnson will be in 2012, Dominique Dawes made her third Olympic team in 2000 despite taking 3 1/2 years off after winning a gold medal in Atlanta.

Two of Johnson's other teammates, Alicia Sacramone and Nastia Liukin have also said they are considering coming back to the sport for a shot at another Olympic team, and Bridget Sloan, the youngest member of the US team in Beijing is still actively competing and won the World Championship all around in late 2009.
