Cop takes his chances with judge rather than jury

LINCOLN, R.I. - A suspended Lincoln police officer accused of assaulting a woman at Twin River casino went before a judge on Wednesday. In court, Edward Krawetz waived his right to a jury trial. The case will now be decided on by a judge.

A grand jury indicted Officer Krawetz on assault charges back in 2009.Krawetz is accused of kicking Donna Levesque of Uxbridge, Mass., in the head while she was handcuffed in May 2009.

According to state police,Krawetz had removed Levesque from Twin River for disorderly conduct and kicked her while they were waiting outside for a patrol car. The assault was captured on surveillance video. That video was shown in court on Wednesday.
