Handling a western black widow spider with bare hands!

Another handling vid of my L. hesperus, this time in better lighting and with my new camera. Toward the beginning of the video you can see the hourglass. I made this video to show that black widow spiders are not the psychotic killers who bite on contact that they are commonly believed to be. A black widow will only bite if it mistakes you for food (unlikely unless you dangle a finger in their web), or feels threatened. When prodded and given a means of escape, a black widow will run away rather than turn and bite.
