  • Hi,
It was filmed from a bridge on the river Tarn, in France, where the European catfish was introduced in 1983 only. This species seems to have reach the limit of its food resources, there...
Here is an article that explains the fact : http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/notrocketscience/2012/12/05/the-catfish-that-strands-itself-to-kill-pigeons/

    • @Jean-Christian

When those catfish become larger, you can forget about swimming in the Tarn River.

Actually, they are larger already in some other rivers. They do eat ducklings and swamp chickens (and also ducks sometimes). And they try to eat dogs or people limbs, from time to time. A boy was found drowned in a river and had marks on the ankle very similar to those left by a catfish. And witnesses stated that dogs were taken.

You know catfish take on the flavor of what they eat. Hell, pigeon may be tasty.

  • Kudos for the catfish, pigeons are a big nuisance for crapping everywhere and a public health issue since they carry a lot a diseases. And wherever they settle, they banish other little birds in towns or the countryside. That catfish is kind enough to help keep their numbers in check

    • @Batarian There are Millions of pigeons living among people in big cities...millions. When was the last time you heard of a healthy person getting sick from a Pigeon with one of those diseases you describe?
It just doesn't happen. You are more likely to get a deadly disease from a human because all birds carry those diseases you are thinking about. Geese carry those same disease along with cats , cows even ducks!

    • @dingledd Bismillah ir-rahman ir-rahim, I know no personal cases but my town hall has recently passed regulation that enables any citizen to shoot them anywhere, anytime with a BB/pellet gun provided they don't annoy/disturb others. When they flock together, the shit from 200 of them is burning away at the wooden rooftops and belfries of some churches

    • @Batarian Do you honestly think these catfish are going to make any kind of dent in pigeon numbers? From reading the above comment/ associated links it seems the catfish are the real nuisance killing indigenous fish to the point that they must hunt unnatural prey.
