Burka Band -

WTF??? This was on German television last year. First I thought it had to be a joke, but it seems real...

Here's a (rough) translation of what the presenter is saying:

"During the Taliban regime music was forbidden. Even the mere possession of a music instrument was punished with death. And now this: the first Afghan girlie pop band named "Burka Band" enters the stage, founded during a workshop of German musicians at the national music school in Kabul. An Afghan woman is that excited by her drums sessions, she instantly decides to beat the drums on her own. The burka has remained, but the whole rest is new. A jovial, very self-deprecating statement from a world which only knew war by then. Mind the lyrics."

After the song he adds:

"Good, isn't it? By the way, the second single will be named "Kabul, Kabul", tributed to Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York". [...]"
