153rd anniversary of Nikola Tesla's birthday

(In memoriam ...)

IN CELEBRATION OF 153rd BIRTHDAY OF NIKOLA TESLA

THIS UPLOAD IS DEDICATED TO NIKOLA TESLA, PROBABLY ONE OF THE GREATEST SCIENTISTS AND INVENTORS OF ALL TIMES, ALSO TO GREATEST YUGOSLAV WHO EVER WALKED THIS EARTH .

Born 10th of July, 1856 in Smiljan near Gospić (in region of Lika), then Austro-Hungarian Empire, today’s Croatia (once proud member of deceased Federation of Yugoslavia). Son of a Serbian-Orthodox priest, Nikola had his schooling at High School Karlovac. He studied Polytechnic School at University of Graz and also had his schooling in Charles-Ferdinad's University in Prague. After ending his schooling in Prague he went to work in Budapest and after that left for France and finally, for United States.
Nikola died in New York, 7th of January, 1943 (Julian calendar Christmas) in the age of 87.

This man's legacy is hard to completely encompass, but I'll try to make reference to of at least his most important findings and inventions:

-Alternate electric current
-Rotating magnetic field
-Three phase power transmission system
-The transformer
-Synchronous and induction electric machines
-Air resonant transformer
-Whole range of lighting bulbs
-Wireless signal transmission (basis for Radio and TV)
-X-rays
-(Concept of) Refrigerator
-(Concept for) Remote control
-Wireless electro-magnetic energy transmission
-Tesla Turbine (by his claims, the most effective mechanical machine ever invented and built)
-Etc.

The list is very long, but the most important fact here is that Nikola's findings and inventions completely changed the World back then and laid foundations for the World we know today and we will probably see in the (near) future.

In his honor, the (derived) SI unit for Magnetic Induction (Magnetic flux density) bears his name (defined as - 1 T = Wb/m2 , i.e. B = dΦ/dS ). In his honor, group of entrepreneurs decided to call their company Tesla Motors and named their first commercial electric driven car, the Tesla Roadster.
Also almost every city in Croatia, Serbia, BiH and other Yugoslav republics has the street bearing name of this great man. Also many institutions, high schools, universities and other, all across my/our former country bear the name of Nikola Tesla.

Now, the dark part.

The (historical) shame is that Nikola died as a forgotten pauper, ill and hungry, becoming a showcase for mockery by the mediocre majority.

But the highest shame is that his genius has fallen as a victim of human/capitalist greed and utter contempt (incident with J.P. Morgan and Nikola’s Wardenclyffe Tower).

Also, his death is even today shrouded in mystery.

But to prove that human stupidity knows no boundaries, I’ll mention the incident from 1991 when Croatian armed forces burned and demolished the house in which Nikola was born. Their rationale was since Nikola was an ethnic Serb, he deserved that. Idiocy at its best!

The story of modern age Prometheus is sad indeed. Nikola was the man who believed that knowledge and energy belongs to everybody, not only to those who can pay. And he’s one of the people who once again proved that revolution, evolution and freedom comes not through barrel of a gun but through science, knowledge and understanding of nature which surrounds us.

Finally, I can only hope that memory of Nikola Tesla will never fade and that he will not be forgotten once more.
