Swiss dig the world's longest railway tunnel

The world's longest railway tunnel is now 57 km (34 miles) long, dug through the Alps made mostly of granite, one of the hardest rocks. It cost $10.6 billion, which for a population of only 8 million represent $1300 in taxes per person spent in the digging.
