Kentucky’s Finest: Couple Accused Of Leaving Their Baby Behind After Walmart Shoplifting Spree

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41) -- Police say two shoplifters were caught in the act -- and when they tried to get away, they left something very precious behind.

According to an arrest report, 21-year-old Daniel Shelton and 23-year-old Amy Kapetanious were at the Wal-Mart supercenter in the 3700 block of Diann Marie Rd. near Westport Rd. on the afternoon of Monday, Jan. 3.

While there, police say they stuffed roughly $1,300 worth of stolen merchandise into a diaper bag and a purse. Instead of paying for the items, the pair allegedly walked past all of the checkout lanes and fled the Wal-Mart.

In the process, they left behind a 9-month-old baby in their shopping cart, according to the arrest report.

Kapetanious attempted to change her clothes and return for the infant a short time later, police say.

Among other things, both suspects were charged with theft by unlawful taking
