Incredible video showing lava entering subdivision in Hawaii

(December 8th, 2011) Awesome raw video showing lava flowing into a subdivision in Hawaii w/ night shots as well.

BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Lava continues to flow through the Royal Gardens subdivision on Thursday. Scientists at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park say the lava is entering a tube system that descends the northeast flank of the Pu`u `O`o and flows down the pali (cliffs) to the nearly abandoned subdivision.

The lone remaining resident of the Royal Gardens subdivision, Jack Thompson, told Hawaii News Now Thursday evening that the current flow is about 500 yards east of his home. "It just went around me, it's gone around me for thirty years, the same old thing," said Thompson from his home.

Scientists say Pahoehoe flows are spreading slowly across the coastal plain inching closer to the ocean. "It's almost reached the ocean," said Thompson, "it may reach tomorrow with the headway its making." Photographer, Leigh Hilbert took incredible video of the lava flow earlier this week as it poured down the pali into the subdivision.

The Kilauea volcano has been continuously erupting since 1983.
