The WW2 Guadalcanal Campaign Started 70 Years Ago Today

This wartime U.S. Marine Corps documentary shows the battle of Guadalcanal (Isatabu). It was produced for restricted showing at U.S. war production plants, so it's long on pep-talk and short on action. Some unique scenes of life on the island.

The small island of Guadalcanal was, like many of the Pacific islands, defended with great determination by the Japanese forces. Both the landing on the beaches and the subsequent inland fighting resulted in heavy casualties for the Americans - and the Japanese fought to almost the last man and the last bullet.
