Suspected hit-and-run attack kills Israeli security man

Head of security of West Bank settlement killed by Arab driver while documenting entry of illegal Palestinian workers into Israel. The driver left the car and fled the scene and later was caught in Jaffa.

Police commander: "The security guard arrived to document the entry of illegal residents and tried to stop the vehicle, which kept going at high speed, hit and killed him. It was an intentional hit."-

A 40-year-old man was killed in a suspected hit-and-run attack Sunday morning on Road 505 between the Jewish settlements of Oranit and Elkana. Lior Farhi, a security coordinator of the Shaare Tikva settelment, was apparently trying to document the entry of illegal Palestinian workers into Israel when he was hit by a car and critically injured.

Police arrested a 25-year-old Arab man from Kfar Kassem on suspicion of driving the vehicle. The man was located in Jaffa and taken in for questioning by the Shin Bet. A Magen David Adom emergency crew attended to the victim and rushed him to the Rabin Medical Center while performing CPR. He was later declared dead. He will be given a military funeral. He may also be recognized as one of Israel's fallen, as he died in the line of duty.

According to first reports, the victim, Lior Farhi, a 40-year-old father of three children, was standing with a police officer at the junction between Shaarei Tikva and Oranit on route 505 in the northwestern West Bank. The men were there to document the entrance of illegal Palestinian workers to Israel, a daily occurrence.

After arousing the suspicions of several Palestinians that arrived at the spot and then fled, Farhi, the police officer and another resident who joined them to film the events decided to park their car on the side of the road and open the hood, so that they would appear to be
passersby.

Sometime later a Mazda arrived from the west and was quickly entered by Palestinians. Two soldiers, one of them female, who were present for some unknown reason, surprised the men who got into the car and its driver made a U-turn, speeding back in the direction from which he came.

Farhi called on him to pull over and when he understood that the driver was not going to
stop, he pulled out a gun and was run over. An eyewitness said the victim landed several dozen meters away from where he was hit. The vehicle was found further down the road, abandoned.

The man's friend is believes the incident was intentional. "The vehicle had so much time to stop, that's what we expected it to do, but it just hit him and blew him away. He was run over intentionally."

The security coordinator was survived by his wife and three children.

Judea and Samaria District Police Commander Amos Yaakov said that "The security guard arrived to document the entry of illegal residents and tried to stop the vehicle, which kept going at high speed, hit and killed him. It was an intentional hit. We are currently investigating all leads."
