Qatar sends aid to Haiti

Doha, January 14 (QNA) -

Under the directives of H.H the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and H.H. the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the supervision of H.E. the Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Maj. Gen. Hamad bin Ali Al-Attiyah, the Armed Forces will participate with the strategic transport plane C-17 from the air transport wing to deliver 44 tons of humanitarian and medical aid to the Republic of Haiti and transfer the search and rescue team (Lakhwiya) with a medical crew specialized in searching and rescue operations in disaster areas. The Qatari rescue detachment is among the first detachments of the world to reach Haiti in order to begin the search and rescue operations and deliver the Qatari humanitarian and medical aid to the afflicted Haitian people. The C-17 aircraft will fly about 12500 km to reach the quake-hit area and will use the latest means of search to contribute to the process of rescuing victims and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Haitian people. The State of Qatar has provided the latest equipment, the best facilities and the highest level of training to participate in such disasters in order to highlight the humanitarian support for people in the disaster-hit zones. Qatar's fast respond to the misery of the Haitian people in spite of the long distance reflects the readiness of national cadres and the efficiency of training for such strategic tasks.
