A Low Profile Spare Magazine for EDC Backup

NOTE: This is NOT spam or an advertisement, just something I hope other CCW's might like.

Anyone carrying a firearm for defensive purposes often wants sufficient ammunition for a reload. www.snagmag.com/ provides a low profile spare magazine option for those carrying a semi-automatic pistol.

It pains me to see people carry a weapon without some sort of reload. A surprising number of people who otherwise ought to know better will throw a gun on and walk out the door without any sort of spare magazine, speed strip, speed-loader, or anything else designed to address that embarrassing click heard when the hammer falls on an empty chamber.

This is foolish for a number of reasons, among them not just the need for additional ammunition but the very real possibility you might have to address malfunctions, at least if you’re carrying a semi-auto.

A new method of carrying spare magazines in a pants pocket has come from SnagMag. It was designed by a law enforcement officers working plainclothes assignments to address the need for a minimalist, low profile carrier for a pistol magazine. Few mag pouches, even those designed for off duty/concealed carry, are pocket-suitable and most of them ‘print’ at least somewhat.

The SnagMag may not be as familiar or bottom-line efficient as an inside the waistband/outside the waistband mag pouch. But it does present certain concealment options depending on the cover garment and is likely to be taken for one of the pocket knife clips that have become so ubiquitous these days. It would seem to be an excellent, simple solution for someone who needs further concealment or just doesn’t have the real estate to carry both a weapon and reload on or around the belt line.

The SnagMag is built of heat-treated stainless steel that has been sandblasted for a satin/matte finish, with a body manufactured of “holster-grade” .060 PVC/Acrylic thermoplastic. The manufacturer advises that it provides “chemical and impact resistance”. The SnagMag retails on line for $39.95 with an offered 10 percent military/law enforcement discount.
