I can understand why Hatch opposes Sotomayor, she reeks of civil rights and doing things properly. She might stop Hatch from doing things behind closed doors like he did with the Adam Walsh Act, even sneaking a secret service agent appointed by Bush into the group that was crafting the Adam Walsh Act in the Senate.

Folks may remember this:

Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, on the Nancy Grace show 7-16-2006, speaking about the Adam Walsh Act which was not yet enacted on that date: "SEN. ORRIN HATCH (R), UTAH: Well, the bill really puts the screws to those who are sexual predators, and you know, sexual offenders. You know, we have ..."

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch says he will vote against Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.

The Republican sits on the Judiciary Committee and says he disagrees with Sotomayor's judicial philosophy.

In a statement issued Friday, Hatch, a lawyer by trade, wrote that Sotomayor's statements and record are at odds with the principles about the judiciary in which he believes.

Despite opposition from Hatch, GOP leaders and other conservatives, Sotomayor's confirmation is all but assured.

She is expected to be confirmed by early August.

Republican Utah Sen. Bob Bennett also says he opposes Sotomayor's nomination.
