MLPD Officer Pulls Suicidal Man From Bridge

Yesterday morning, just before 7:30 am, Moses Lake Police officers were dispatched to the area of Stratford Road over SR-17 for a suicidal subject on the bridge. When the first MLPD officer arrived on scene, he found a 45-year-old man straddling the guard rail. The officer began to speak with the distraught male.

As he was attempting to establish a dialogue, the officer saw the man begin to shift his weight and move around. Believing the man was getting ready to jump, the officer closed the distance and pulled him off the rail and onto the sidewalk. With the assistance of a Washington State Patrol trooper, the man was detained and transported to Grant County Mental Health for an evaluation. Neither the officers nor the man on the bridge were injured.

We are very proud of the effort our officers put forth every day to make our community a better place.
