House Collapse

Gas explosion brings down one section of a nine-storey apartment building in the city of Astrakhan in southern European Russia just after 1pm in the afternoon, today 27th of February 2012. At this time, the number of victims is 11 people, of whom six required hospitalization, including two children.


28 Feb update:

Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry said that four bodies have been recovered from the site of a collapsed nine-story apartment block in the city of Astrakhan.

Rescuers continue to search for six residents of the building who are still unaccounted for.

The ministry said 26 people have been freed from the rubble, five of whom are still in the hospital.
