  • I have a red trigger button on my mouse I can click with my thumb, that allows me to instantly mute anything. I have this red thumb scroll I have set to control volume.

    Get one of these...

It has back forward buttons and page scroll and a button to change modes (maybe page zoom) as well as change the dpi of the mouse. You can even change how long it is! It telescopes apart! (couldn't live without this mouse) It also has weights you can remove to change how heavy More..

  • Presumably the problem is the same as it has practically always been with TV ads. I've seen it referred to in the past as "voice compression," "vox comp" or "voxcomp" but those terms are used for other things as well; the technical term is "dynamic range compression." To confuse matters further there's the term "audio level compression."

Basically the method increases effective volume by stretching the amplitude of the waveforms of an audio More..

    • @NotJim That's absolutely true for TV commercials and broadcast compression, but this guy simply has his computer plugged into his TV...

What I think he's doing is he's turning his TV up really loud, but he's using the YouTube volume control on the YouTube player to 'turn down' the volume of the videos. Therefore only the YouTube videos play quietly and any other sound out of the computer will be played at the volume the TV is set at.

He should turn the YouTube player volume to MAX and tu More..

    • @Subvibes

This method in a sense bypasses volume control. It has nothing to do with the mix of equipment or signal sources.

If he did precisely as you suggest the effect would still occur.

    • @NotJim Thank you for editing that. I just wrote some long-winded apology thinking I'd stepped on your toes. I meant no offence and your idea is perfectly feasible too. I just couldn't see why his TV has to be turned up so loud in the first place unless he accidentally had his levels mixed up.. So I got home this afternoon, watched his video many times and tried figuring it out but I cannot seem to replicate what this guy is doing. I've got PC running through a big fat receiver and can turn tha More..

  • I'm confused... You said in your video subtitles that the high volume is waking your neighbours, yet you verbally said while the Ad was blasting that "the volume is turned down right now"...
What volume are you talking about, the YouTube player volume or the TV volume?
If so, I can help you fix this (and save your neighbour's sanity) in just 2 steps.
(I'm the only person in the poll to say 'NO' so far)
