Parking lot collapsed trapping cars and drivers

11/27/2007 KSDK) - A section of a north St. Louis County convenience store parking lot collapsed Monday night, though no one was injured, authorities said.

Witnesses said a woman got into her car and shut the door before it fell into the hole. A second car also fell into the hole.

As firefighters worked the scene and tow truck operators removed the two cars, workers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Sewer District arrived on the scene with flashlights in an effort to find out what caused the gaping pit.

Officials said the hole was 8 to 10-feet deep, 40-feet wide and 15-feet long.
