FLINT (WJRT) -(04/10/13) - A Flint teenager, charged in the March murder of a Mt. Morris Township man, is claiming he shot in self defense.
Darshaun Demond's defense attorney, Michael Ewing, put prosecutors on notice Wednesday that he intends to use that defense at trial.
Demond, 17, has been bound over to circuit for trial in the March 9 armed robbery and murder of 21-year-old Laventez Phipps in Mt. Morris Township. His preliminary hearing was Wednesday. Genesee County District Court Judge David Goggins found there was enough evidence for him to stand trial.
Three witnesses testified during the hearing including Phipps' 15-year-old sister who says she saw him murdered. ABC12 was asked to not show her on camera or to use her name because of her age.
"I sawed (sic) the gun when he (Demond) walked up to the house," she said.
She says Demond, a family friend, was at the Mt. M
