9-Year-Old Boy With Autism Arrested at School

The parents of the 9-year-old who was arrested in August after fighting another student and striking a teacher are speaking out. Cops were called after fourth grader Devin Shepherd got into a fight with a classmate during recess at Needham Elementary School in Franklin, Ind. When a teacher intervened, Devin hit the teacher. The boy's father recorded the heartbreaking scene. “Just chill out buddy. You're leaving with me. I promise you,” the father told his son as he was being arrested.

  • Yeah, blame it on autism. More like failure to discipline your child at home. Idiot.

  • Fighting another student, no big deal. Striking a teacher, very big deal. Parents can be all upset until the cows come home, but if your kid is too antisocial to behave in a public setting, then he shouldn't be there in the first place.

Anyone can be diagnosed with something thanks to DMS-V Just walk into the office of your local therapist, we will make sure you'll exit with a diagnose and meds!

It's fun! I made it my hobby to get labels.
Once you find out the "logic" behind the questionnaires. I made it my personal mission to get the super combo deals. 5 disorders in one go is my high score atm. And I leave laughing like:
"Omg... they still haven't figured out that I'm just in it to rank up as many diagnoses as possible in one go"
It's a fun game and the only way to destroy this perverted and corrupt 'psychology'

    • @Baldieman64 Been there done that. I was "diagnosed" as having ADHD when I was in public elementary school and was put on Ritalin.

Thankfully when I went to Jr. High and High school my parents put me into a high achieving private school where I could pick my own courses and take advanced courses.

Voila! The moment I was challenged I didn't need Ritalin and my "ADHD" was cured!

  • Nowadays everyone has autism.
Even if so, why is he in a school for normal children then?
Failure of parenthood in any case.

  • You throw out a word autism like it must mean retarded. Weird. You should look into autism more if you think it gives people of ANY age the right to go around being violent.

  • This is a joke right?, if the school knows hes autistic then surely they have procedures to deal with the tantrums, waste of time and money calling the cops.

    • @Bacchus Lawyers have the school's hands tied. They'd rather have the cops deal with it than face litigation.

      Posted 8 days ago By

    • @Bacchus Just because there is a diagnosis does not mean that there is significant disability.
Using DSM-5, 1% of kids have ASD and a further 11% have ADHD and most attend a mainstream school with minimal support.
The alternative to teaching these children that their violent and antisocial actions have unpleasant consequences to be avoided is to have them develop ingrained violent behaviours that see them in the prison system in adulthood.

    • @coolhund Both are neurodevelopmental disorders. Both are over diagnosed thanks to DSM-5. Both describe a spectrum of impairments from very mild to profound disability.
There is no evidence whatever to indicate that this was an outburst resulting from sensory overload - he was simply fighting with his classmates.
Didn't it strike you as odd that the boy was sitting calmly on the sofa despite all the changes to routine, bright lights and sensory overload that go with filming an outside broadca More..

Think about it, normal people don't kill people.
