ALEXANDRIA, Va. - FOX 5 has learned that an Alexandria Fire Department paramedic injured in a fall from an overpass in northern Virginia has died.
33-year-old Joshua Weissman, a seven-year veteran of the Alexandria Fire Department, was part of an emergency unit responding to a vehicle fire on I-395 in Shirlington Wednesday night.
Virginia State Police say an Alexandria fire and EMS ambulance stopped in the northbound lanes of I-395 to reach the burning vehicle.
Police say Weissman fell off the roadway and into Four Mile Creek, about 20 feet below the interstate.
Police say Weissman was rescued from the creek and CPR was performed on him. He was then transported to Washington Hospital Center in critical condition.
