Japan: Ronald McDonald kicks off global fast food strike in Tokyo

Fast food workers went on strike and staged a protest on Thursday nearby a Tokyo McDonalds and a Sukiya fast food chain, as part of a global day of action targeting for better pay.

Employees from 150 cities in 32 countries are taking part in the two day "Fast Food Forward" action, campaigning for the right to create unions without fear of reprisal, and for improved working conditions in the industry.

Strikers all over the world are targeting McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, and KFC, among other fast food chains. The International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Association (IUF), which represents about 12 million workers in 126 countries, are also supporting the strike, which will last until Friday.
