Russia banned from 2018 Winter Olympics

On the 5th of december the I.O.C decided to ban Russia as a nation in the upcoming 2018 Winter Games in South Korea. This was done after overwhelming evidence of a state run doping program came to light in the preceding years. Russian athletes are allowed to compete in the games under a neutral Olympic flag and indepedent testing.

In 2015 the german ARD channel broadcasted a documentary widely accusing the Russian govt of cheating during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi. Several Russian whistlebowers came forward after this, including the Russian WADA President Grigori Rodchenkov. The whistleblowers fled Russia, most of them living under the WITSEC program in the United States in fear of being hunted down by Russian foreign agents.
