GOP ejects people who threw nuts at camerawoman

TAMPA -- There are tensions just below the surface at the Republican convention.

The GOP ejected two people from last night's session for allegedly throwing nuts at a black CNN camerawoman, and saying, "This is how we feed animals."

"Yesterday two attendees exhibited deplorable behavior," said a Republican statement, posted by "Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated."

Security also escorted out at least two protesters who began yelling during GOP speeches at the Tuesday convention session. Their comments could barely be heard in the large arena, the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

The nut-throwing incident was first reported on Twitter by and reporter David Shuster.

Tweeted Shuster: "GOP attendee ejected for throwing nuts at African American CNN camera woman + saying 'This is how we feed animals'."

Some Twitter users are casting it as a racial issue. But it should be noted that some Republicans dislike many media members, regardless of color. also has a CNN statement from Tuesday:

"CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment."
