Violent Purse Robbery Caught On Tape; The Police Are Only A Phone Call Away

Philadelphia Police has released surveillance video of the robbery of a 71-year old woman in Rittenhouse.

The incident happened on August 7th at 5:58pm.

The victim was walking down the 2300 block of Manning Street following a trip to the Farmer's Market in Rittenhouse. An unknown male approached her on a bike from behind and grabbed her by the back of the neck.

She was spun around and her knee was injured. She began to scream and the suspect ripped her pocketbook off of her shoulder.

The contents of her purse included her PA drivers license, $65, credit cards and a pre-paid cell phone. he then fled west on Manning Street on his bicycle.

The suspect is described as a Black male, 6'0″, 20 years-of-age, muscular build, medium brown complexion, wearing a bright green tee shirt, and tan shorts. Suspect was riding a dark colored bicycle.
