Surveillance Video Shows Fatal Shootout at Jacksonville Landing

Surveillance video shows how a deadly Martin Luther King Jr. Day shootout unfolded outside The Jacksonville Landing. Last month, the State Attorney’s Office ruled the Jan. 16 shooting, which killed 16-year-old Khamoi Petersen and wounded a 13-year-old bystander, was a justifiable use of deadly force. Tyrik Solomon, 18, who shot Petersen, was sentenced Feb. 22 to two years’ probation as part of a deal with prosecutors in which he avoided conviction and pled guilty to a felony count of carrying a concealed weapon. It appears that Petersen and Solomon exchanged words near the steps of the Landing, though what was said remains unclear. Petersen then pulls a handgun from his waistband and a confrontation ensues. Then Solomon pulls a handgun from under his shirt and both open fire. Seconds later, Petersen crumples to the ground as Solomon flees.
