0 CCTV shows moment six-year-old crushed between cars by 'drunk driver'
She was rushed to Westmead Children's Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition with pelvis injuries. A NSW police spokesman said the crash could have been a "catastrophe". "The offending driver in this instance was heavily impaired with alcohol. The driver was six times over the legal limit," he said. "With that level of impairment how do you get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle and attempt to drive, let alone walk? Seven vehicles in all were involved in the collision and it could have been a hell of a lot worse."
Police allege the 50-year-old driver, Barbara Farlow, was six times over the legal blood-alcohol limit and using her phone at the time of the crash. She allegedly tried to flee the scene on foot but was detained by bystanders until police arrived and arrested her. Farlow was breath-tested at the scene and was found to have a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.303 percent. She has been charged with high range drink-driving, causing bodily harm by misconduct and driving while using a mobile phone.
Farlow was allegedly drinking at the Ryde Eastwood RSL before the crash and CCTV footage shows her walking from a liquor store with a full bag just moments before the crash. The 50-year-old has been granted conditional bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court on Monday, October 24.
