Teen slams baby in car seat to ground, admits he was under influence of laced pot

A teenager admitted to police that he was under the influence of laced marijuana when he was caught on camera slamming a baby restrained in a car seat to the ground in the parking lot of a grocery store in Edmond.

About 7:40 p.m. May 24, officers responded to a disturbance in the parking lot of Crest Foods at 2200 West 15th Street in Edmond, according to police. Several witnesses told officers that someone had just attacked a baby, who had abrasions to the neck and head. The baby, a 1-year-old boy, is doing OK, officials said.

Officers said they found the person involved, who is 17 years old, in a neighborhood near the store. Police said his eyes were dilated and appeared to be very bloodshot and watery.

According to police, the teen made statements to them, telling them to “shoot him” and at one point requested a knife so he could “do it himself.” Paramedics responded and treated the teen at the scene.

A witness told police that the teen had grabbed the baby, who had been restrained in a car seat, from a shopping cart and “slammed” him to the ground. They said the teen also jumped on the hood of a vehicle, exposed himself to passing vehicles and flipped off people.

According to police, the teen was seen on surveillance video bending a parking sign nearly to the ground.

After being treated by paramedics, police said the teen apologized to the officers for kicking an officer during the altercation. He admitted that, earlier, he had smoked marijuana that was laced either with acid or PCP. He was taken to OU Medical Center to be checked out.

Police said the teen faces complaints of aggravated assault and battery, a misdemeanor count of assault on a police officer, indecent exposure, public intoxication and malicious injury or destruction of property.
