Vehicles pile up on Chinese highway after smoke from engine fire reduces visibility

Multiple cars crashed one after another after a motor caught fire in northern China reducing visibility on a highway.

In the footage captured in the Dingzhou section of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, a car on a commodity transporter suddenly caught fire.

The commodity transporter then parked in a roadside parking belt and removed the burning vehicle.

The smoke pouring from the burning vehicle combined with slippery roads meant nearby motorists could not brake in time.

Shortly afterwards, more than 10 vehicles hit each other one after another, and one driver was slightly injured.

Traffic police rushed to the scene and within an hour, the traffic was restored.

The cause of the accident is under further investigation.

The video was filmed on November 18 and provided by local media.
