Walk in Cairo, the largest Middle Eastern city

Walk in Cairo, Egypt, the largest city of the Middle East.

Cairo has long been a centre of Arab political and cultural life, and is titled "the city of a thousand minarets" for its preponderance of Islamic architecture.

Cairo has the oldest and largest film and music industries in the Middle East, as well as the world's second-oldest institution of higher learning, Al-Azhar University. Many international media, businesses, and organizations have regional headquarters in the city; the Arab League has had its headquarters in Cairo for most of its existence.

Cairo accounts for 11% of Egypt's population and 22% of its economy (PPP). The majority of the nation's commerce is generated there, or passes through the city.

Cairo is also know for its elegant 19th century British and French architecture and buildings, built when the city was under British and French rule.
