Man stabbed and robbed while trying to sell bag of meat

Police are looking for three suspects after a man was stabbed and robbed of a backpack of meat in downtown Oshawa on Sunday morning.

An Oshawa resident caught the incident on his surveillance video and said he supplied the video to police.

According to officers, the incident occurred just before 11 a.m. on June 9, on Ontario Street, in downtown Oshawa. A 30-year-old Oshawa man was trying to sell meat from his backpack when three men assaulted him, stabbing him numerous times in the leg. The assailants fled with the backpack full of meat.

Police searched the area but did not find the suspects. Officers say the victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening wounds and he was not forthcoming with information about his assailants.

Ontario Street resident Robert Baird caught the incident on his surveillance camera. He said he has picked up break-ins in the past and supplied video footage to officers.

“The police actually came and asked me for it because they know about the cameras,” he said.

Police have not released the video, but Baird has shared it on Facebook.

“You clearly see the guy in the hood taking something out of his pocket and swing at the person being attacked,” said Baird. “It looked like a robbery because everything he had with him got taken from him.”

The video has drawn a large number of comments online.

“A lot of people are very upset with it. A lot of people are upset with the fact that it was a three-on-one and it happened literally in the daytime,” said Baird.
