High-speed chase ends in baby's rescue

The Ohio State Highway Patrol released dashcam footage Tuesday from a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle with a baby inside.

Joshua Gilliland, 29, of Arcadia, Ohio, was arrested Saturday night after police accused him of leading officers on a chase from Findlay to Toledo. Authorities said he stole a pickup truck with a 9-month-old baby inside.

The video, shared with The Blade by its media partner, WTVG-TV, Channel 13, show a truck speeding and attempting to evade police on I-475. The pursuit ended in Toledo where Mr. Gilliland is accused of ramming a patrol car that tried to block him.

Both driver's side tires were popped and sparks can be seen in the video coming from underneath the truck. A man is seen exiting the vehicle and attempting to flee on foot.

Mr. Gilliland faces charges of kidnapping, grand theft of a motor vehicle, child endangerment, felony fleeing and eluding, and two counts of assault on a police officer. His bond was set at $250,000 and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday.

Findlay police alerted the Ohio State Highway Patrol and neighboring police departments about a vehicle theft from a residence in the 400 block of Monroe Avenue in Findlay about 7:50 p.m. Saturday, and state troopers spotted the suspected vehicle on I-75 near Bowling Green, police said.

Investigators contend Mr. Gilliland later struck a second cruiser and fled on foot before Toledo police captured him with the assistance of a city police dog. He was treated at a local hospital for injuries inflicted by the police dog, authorities said, then taken to the jail after being medically cleared.

The infant was not injured and was returned to her parents.
