Victims identified in deadly Interstate 80 pileup

The pile-up involved 30 vehicles in westbound lanes, and an additional 25 vehicles in secondary crashes, on Interstate-80, at Exit 335 near Laramie, Wyoming, closed for hours.

Previous traffic camera video footage of the area showed trucks parked on the highway as snow continued to blanket the lanes. The mass collision consisted mostly of commercial vehicles like semi-trucks.

Authorities are investigating driving too fast for the conditions and following too closely as causes for a multi-vehicle crash, the Wyoming Highway Patrol reported.

The patrol identified the three people who died in the crash as:

Deborah Carrel, 53, of Marshall, Michigan;
Emman Ojiaka, 64, of Denton, Texas; and
Kian Kennedy, 27, of Hampton, Georgia.
Carrell was a passenger in a Toyota Highlander that was struck by a commercial vehicle. Ojiaka and Kennedy were both driving commercial vehicles.
