Greek city descends into chaos on 10th anniversary of police killing

Demonstrators in the Greek city of Thessaloniki threw rocks, firebombs and other projectiles at police on Thursday as marches on the 10th anniversary of the fatal police shooting of a teenager turned violent.

Police responded with stun grenades and tear gas.

Alexandros Grigoropoulos was 15 when he was shot dead during a night out with friends in central Athens on December 6, 2008.

He was killed when a policeman fired his gun after an altercation.

The policeman said later that Grigoropoulos was killed by a ricochet.

The teenager's death sparked the largest riots Greece had seen in decades.
