48 Russian-Georgian War: 11 Years After
11 years ago, Russia attacked Georgia and unleashed the first war on European territory in the 21st century. In the night of August 8th Russian sent its troops to South Ossetia to support militants self-declared independence. Georgian settlements, ports and military installations were bombed. The fighting spread to other cities of Georgia and the region of Abkhazia where five days of the war took hundreds of lives. In total 20 percent of Georgian territory continue to be occupied and exist as 'de-facto' states in a frozen conflict.
