Suspect accused of stabbing off-duty firefighter at Portland bar

Portland police on Tuesday named the suspect accused of stabbing an off-duty Portland Fire & Rescue lieutenant on Saturday night at a bar near Providence Park in Southwest Portland.

The suspect was identified by police as 30-year-old Carroll McClendon. He's described by police as a black man, 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds. Police said he should be considered dangerous and is likely armed with a knife.

If anyone sees McClendon or knows where he is, don't approach him, police say, but call 911 immediately. Police said they'll be looking for a description of his clothing, current location and direction of travel.

The victim, who has served as a firefighter for 23 years, has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home, police said. The police investigation remains active as detectives seek out more evidence and additional witnesses.

The owner of the bar released surveillance video of the incident. KGW has blurred the faces of people in the bar to protect their identities while police are still searching for the suspect.
