188 Man Jailed After Hit And Run
Derby, UK - Horrifying footage shows the moment a man was thrown 20 metres along the road "like a ragdoll" after being hit by an Audi driver who drove off without stopping. Driver Haider Mirza, 21, caused life-threatening injuries to victim Ahmed Yousef, who suffered a fractured skull and now has one leg permanently shorter than the other. Shocked witnesses are seen rushing to help Mr Yousef following the crash in Normanton, Derby, in November 2017. The victim was crossing the road when the Audi A3 with Mirza at the wheel ploughed into him. Despite a public appeal, Mirza did not come forward, and evaded police for 11 months. Judge Philip Wassall, who presided over the case, handed Mirza a custodial sentence of 40 months and banned him from driving. He also commended Derbyshire Live and the police for sharing the CCTV footage, as he stated this helped in Mirza's capture. Jailing Mirza, Judge Wassall said: "This was appalling. "You were in no doubt as to what you had done and you left the scene at an unabated pace. "You would have known that the person you hit would be really seriously injured. Looking at the CCTV it is only through luck that Mr Yousef wasn't killed.
