Dashcam video of DPD crash released

The Decatur Police Department released dashcam video of a crash that left an officer injured.

The two-car crash happened on Monday around 6:25 p.m. at the intersection of Route 36 and 22nd Street. Police say a pickup truck heading westbound slammed into a police car. The driver of the pickup truck failed to stop at a red light.

Police say two officer were in the police car at the time of the crash.

A male officers had cuts on his arm, while the female officer in the front passenger seat needed hospital care. Police say she is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.

"Our officers are a bit sore but will soon be back to work," said DPD

Officers say they cited the pickup truck driver for three violations after he admitted to being on his phone. The charges include unlawful use of an electronic device, no valid driver's license and disobeying a traffic control signal.
