Knife-wielding ATM robbery suspect sought by police

Police released surveillance footage Thursday, May 21, of a robbery at knifepoint that happened in broad daylight at an ATM in Santa Ana.

The theft took place at 1317 Warner Avenue on Tuesday, May 12 at about 2:56 p.m., Santa Ana Police officials said in a news release. Recorded video of the theft shows a white BMW X5 park behind a man withdrawing cash at an ATM. A man armed with a knife and wearing an open, white button-up shirt over a tank top, dark-colored pants and a face mask or bandanna exits the passenger side of the vehicle.

He approaches the victim from behind and demands all of his money.

The victim turns and hands over his cash and leaves his wallet on a counter as he flees. He was not injured, Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. The suspect goes on to take the man’s wallet and returns to the vehicle.
