DeLand officer fired for rough, improper arrest

A DeLand police officer, who told his trainee that his handcuffing techniques are fast and his body searches good, was fired Monday morning after his superiors determined he used excessive force and unlawfully arrested a man in an incident last year, documents state.

Officer Joey Mulero was terminated for forcing DeLand resident Allan Kidd to the ground and handcuffing him during an encounter at the corner of Orange and New York avenues on Sept. 14, 2017, officials said.
