Severe flooding submerges homes In central Vietnam

Central Vietnam continues to suffer severe flooding after a storm brought heavy rains to the region.

Residents were forced to use boats and floatation devices to leave their submerged homes in Quang Tri.

Areas near river systems were among the worst hit, with flood water reaching up to 3 metres (10 feet) high, sparing only the roof of many houses.

In the tourist capital Da Nang, locals used woven baskets as boats.

The National weather forecasting centre said the torrential rains are expected to last until Sunday October 11.

Vietnam and other countries in Southeast Asia have experienced severe flooding this week as the region reaches the peak of its annual rainy season.
