Driver caught on camera ramming car into bicyclist

A 19-year-old man was arrested after being caught on camera ramming his car into a bicyclist, according to Edmond police.

According to police, officers responded Tuesday morning to the area of Broadway and East Fifth Street, after someone called police to report that he believed he had witnessed a drug deal.

The caller said the suspected drug deal was between a man driving a car and a man on a bicycle. The incident ended with the driver ramming his car into the man on the bicycle, and then getting out of the car and punching the bicyclist, police said.

The man in the car drove away from the scene, and the man on the bicycle left on foot, according to police. A bag of marijuana was found at the scene.

Edmond police said they later received a phone call from a woman, stating that her son had been run over by a vehicle. While at the hospital, the victim identified the driver involved as 19-year-old Caleb McLaren.

McLaren was taken into custody and is facing a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to police.

Police on Friday released surveillance video from a nearby business that captured the altercation.
