Lawyer of Ukrainian sailors in Russia detained for "extremism"

In Russia-occupied Crimea, Putin's henchmen detained the lawyer of the arrested Ukrainian sailors Emil Kurbedinov - reported on Thursday, December 6 by "".

According to them, Kurbedinov was detained in Simferopol in the morning and taken to department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. A protocol was drawn up on it under article 20.3 “Propaganda of extremist organizations”. By 3:00 pm, according to lawyer Aider Azamatov, Kurbetdinov was taken to the Kievsky district court of Simferopol, where the hearing of his case began.

Kurbedinov is accused of a post depicting the symbols of a banned organization published on Facebook in 2013. “Judging by the materials of the case, the application for Kurbedinov was sent by a former resident of the Crimea, who moved to Damascus,” his colleagues specified.

Kurbedinov is considered a lawyer for human rights defenders and Crimean Tatars. In the spring of 2017, he was awarded the international award Front Line Defenders, awarded to human rights defenders. In November 2018, he became one of the lawyers for Ukrainian sailors detained near the Kerch Strait. In January 2017, for propaganda of symbols of extremist communities, he was sentenced to ten days of administrative arrest.

On December 3, it was reported that the military personnel of the Naval Forces (Navy) of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officers who were detained in international waters near Kerch Strait were charged with "illegal crossing of Russian border".
