Bodycam captures mom working to revive 16-year-old son with 911 dispatcher’s help

On Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at about 3:08 p.m., the City of Riverside’s Public Safety Communications Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding a 16-year-old teen who was not breathing in his home in the La Sierra neighborhood. Public Safety Dispatcher Olivia Santos answered the call and began instructing the teen’s mother on CPR while she had Paramedics with the Riverside Fire Department respond. Due to the circumstances, Officers with the Riverside Police Department were also dispatched.

Officer Matthew Rhoades responded and was the first to arrive at the house. He rushed inside and began taking over CPR with the help of the teen’s . Public Safety Dispatcher Santos had actually talked the mother through CPR for over 3 minutes until Officer Rhoades arrived. This 16-year-old son was unconscious, not breathing, and did not have a pulse. Officer Rhoades and the teen’s mother continued CPR and resuscitated the boy.

This teen has fully recovered thanks to his mother, Public Safety Dispatcher Santos, Officer Rhoades, and the crews at Riverside Fire Station #8 and American Medical Response.
