Suspects caught on camera breaking into Portland tow truck company, running over employee

Police are searching for a man and a woman who were caught on camera stealing a pickup truck and running over an employee at a towing company in North Portland Wednesday.

Officers responded to the reported break-in at 21st Century Towing on North Kerby Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. While they were responding, officers learned that an employee had been run over.

Surveillance video from the scene shows a man and a woman arriving at the towing company in a white work van with lettering on the side. The woman crawled under a locked gate to get inside.

About a minute later, a tow truck employee pulls up on the outside of the gate. He gets out of his company truck and appears to be trying to speak to someone through the gate.

Then, the female suspect drives a pickup truck through the gate, slamming the fence into the employee and tossing him several feet in the air. The employee gets up and pounds on the pickup truck’s window, but the woman drives away.

Police said the employee was taken to a hospital with significant injuries, but he’s expected to survive.

Investigators say the suspects are a white man between 60 and 70 years old with white hair and a white woman between 20 and 30 years old.

The pickup truck the woman stole is a charcoal-colored 2016 Ford F150 with a matching canopy. It has license plate number 628JPJ. Investigators are trying to locate the vehicle. They suspect it has substantial front-end damage and no front license plate.
